In site work, we have to submit our requirement before our execution. So for this we calculate our requirement quantity before execution. Let's see how we calculate our required quantity of cement & sand for plaster work.
Question-
Area of wall is 1 sqm, mortar ratio is 1:4 & thickness of plaster is 10 mm, Calculate the quantity of cement & sand for plastering?
Data given-
Area of wall = 1 sqm
Thickness of plaster =10 mm or 0.01 m
Ratio=1:4
Solution-
First we calculate our plaster volume i.e. (area of wall*thickness of plaster)
= (1*0.01) = 0.01 cum
Sum of ratio = (1+4) =5
Cement Sand
5 = 1 4
1 =. (1/5) (4/5)
1.33 = (1/5)*1.33 (4/5)*1.33
( when we calculate our quantity it is in dry condition, but when we work we add water in it, after adding of water the mix of cement & sand get shrink by it's volume, so for this we add 33% to 35% to get the exact quantity)

Cement Sand
1.33 = (1/5)*1.33 (4/5)*1.33
1.33 = (1/5)*1.33 (4/5)*1.33
1.33 = 0.226 1.064
1.33 = 0.226*1440 1.064*35.3147
(unit weight of cement =1440 kg/cum, 1 cum= 35.3147)
(unit weight of cement =1440 kg/cum, 1 cum= 35.3147)
Cement Sand
If 1.33 = 325.44 kg 37.574 cft
If 1.33 = 325.44 kg 37.574 cft
so 0.01 cum = 325.44*0.01 37.574*0.01
0.01 cum = 3.25 kg 0.376 cft
So, 3.25 kg cement & 0.376 cft sand required for 0.01 cum plastering.
